Angeles City Pampanga Philippines Hotels/Resorts
Angeles City Philippines, in the Pampanga province of North Luzon, is also knows as the City of Angels. 83 Kilometers (52 miles) north of Manila, the city is the financial and commercial hub of Pampanga. It is located directly outside of the Clark Freeport Zone, thereby lending itself as a good alternative hotel destination for those wishing to spend time in Clark.
Angeles City owns an important space in the history of kindness. During WW-II, Angeles played a part in the terrible and infamous Bataan Death March where 57,000 Filipino and American prisoners of war passed Angeles on their way to Camp O'Donnell in Capas, Tarlac. The people of Angeles were very compassionate to the marchers, giving them essential water and food including milk, eggs, rice cakes, and even cigarettes. Angeleños were even instrumental in helping some of the captives escape and offer emotional and spiritual support as they continued to the train stations in the neighboring towns of Dau and Mabalacat.
Clark maintains much of the American style traffic control and wide-open, spread-out territory. However, Angeles City is much busier and congested than the Freeport it sits alongside. You will find typical Filipino traffic that includes jeepneys, motorcycles, tricycle sidecars, taxis, bicycles, and pedestrians all occupying the same street space in Angeles.
Sitting side-by-side one of the largest U.S. overseas Airforce bases for many decades grew this area into an entertainment nightspot for U.S. military personnel. That atmosphere is present today with numerous bars, restaurants and nightclubs seeking patrons. You will see many foreigners, both expats and visitors, from all over the world in this popular area of the Philippines.
Rates for hotels and resorts are typically less expensive in Angeles City. Many of the hotels are smaller than the big resort facilities in Clark, but some are appointed quite extravagantly. The Oasis Hotel offers a more quiet, old American, spread-out bungalow type of lodging with many individually separated buildings dispersed over large, green grounds. While the Lewis Grand and Fields Plaza Resort Hotels offer more Beverly Hills type luxury accommodations with large suites and many fancy amenities.
